Giampaolo Proni is Professor of Semiotics at the University of Bologna, Department of Life Quality Studies. He teaches in programs on fashion (CdL CLAM and FAST International Master) in the Rimini campus. His first field of research is the philosophy and semiotics of Charles S. Peirce. Other research interestes are in applied semiotics, specifically qualitative analysis of urban spaces, consumption behaviour and fashion shopping. His main research activity, from 2009, has focused on semiotics of design, in the attempt to unify functionalism and symbolism in the light of pragmaticism. He works also in sociosemiotic research in turism. He is a member of CAST (Centro di Studi Avanzati sul Turismo), of CIRI MAM and ICT.
