Bio-districts area tool for rural development as they allow to connect different local stakeholders through innovative methods of collaboration and cooperation. The connection of the different actors of the supply chain allows to share knowledge, becoming a leverage to develop resilience in rural areas.
Starting point of this research are the SAFA guidelines published by FAO, where the three different pillars of sustainability (namely environmental, social and economic) plus one related to governance are codified in a general framework. The social pillar and the governance are used as a reference that is then adapted to the context of the bio-district, based on the information retrieved from the literature and field interviews in the area.
