Curriculum vitae

Giacomo Bergamini (born 1979) got his laurea (cum laude) in chemistry at the University of Bologna in 2003, defending a thesis on photophysical and electrochemical characterization of dendrimers, advisor Prof. Vincenzo Balzani. In the 2007 he got the PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Bologna, working under the supervision of Prof. Vincenzo Balzani in the field of design and characterization of supramolecular systems.

He was a visiting scientist, for six months, in the laboratory “Photochemistry and Spectroscopy” of Prof. Frans De Schryver at the Katolieke Universiteit of Leuven (Belgium), financially supported by a grant from “Marco Polo” programme.

Jan. 2007- Oct 2011 he got research fellowships to work at the Photochemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry group, directed by Prof. Vincenzo Balzani, in the Department of Chemistry “G. Ciamician”.

November 2011 - March 2019 “Ricercatore a Tempo Determinato” and since April 2019 is Associate Professor at the University of Bologna, Department of Chemistry “G. Ciamician”.

He has published more than 90 research papers published on international journal, 6 of which are review articles, and 3 book chapters.

He attended more than 30 national and  international conferences with oral or poster presentations (in particular oral presentations at: “5th International Dendrimer Symposium (IDS-5)” Toulouse, France and “XIInd IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry” Gothenburg, Sweden); “3rd EuChems Chemistry Congress” Nuremberg, Germany.

He was awarded “Premio tesi 2004, radiazioni ionizzanti e non ionizzanti” prize by SIRR (International Society of Radiation Research) in 2004. He was a finalist of the “ 2010 European Young Chemist Award”.

He received the International “Vincenzo Caglioti” prize 2013, by the Accademia Nazionale dei lincei.

Coordinator of the PHOTOTRAIN project (3,6 million, 2016-2020), ITN-Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions of the European H2020 programme

He gave a lecture at “4° Corso Nazionale di Introduzione alla Fotochimica” in 2007, and at “5° Corso Nazionale di Introduzione alla Fotochimica” in 2010.

He was a tutor in the:“General Chemistry Laboratory” and “Material Chemistry Laboratory” courses, academic year 2008-2009; “General Chemistry Laboratory” course, academic year 2009-2010; “Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory” course, academic year 2010-2010.

Lecturer of the “Supramolecular Photochemistry” course, second-level degree “Fotochimica e Materiali Molecolari”, University of Bologna, academic year 2010-2011.

From 2012, lecturer of the “Applied Photochemistry and Photophysic” course second-level degree “Fotochimica e Materiali Molecolari”, University of Bologna.
