Curriculum vitae

Associate professor at the University of Ferrara since 2014, he carries out his research on numerical methods for electromagnetics applied to integrated optics and microwaves. The research interests are aimed, in particular, at the design of optical devices with applications to telecommunications and bio-photonics.

Education

Graduated in Electronic Engineering in 1999 at the University of Bologna, with a thesis on the applications of classical holography, he obtained a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science in 1995 discussing a thesis on the applications of the Finite Differences in the Domain of Time (FDTD) technique for microwave heating.

Academic roles

In 1995 he held the Course of 'Electromagnetic Fields' for the Diploma Course in Electronic Engineering, Campus of Cesena of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna.

In 1998, he carried out the exercises for the Telecommunications Systems Course for the Diploma Course in Aerospace Engineering at the Campus of Forlì of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna.

In 1999, he became Researcher in the disciplinary scientific sector ING-INF/02 at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara.

Teaching

Since 2015 he is the lecturer of the Propagation Course for the Master Degree in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications of the University of Ferrara.

He also held the courses of 'Optical Signal Processing', 'Optical Communications', 'Antennas' and 'Design of Optical and Microwave Components' at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ferrara.

Research

He has participated in national (PRIN, FIRB) and international (FP7) research programs including: Research Project SAPPHIRE (PRIN 2009), Research Project PHOTONICA (FIRB 2008), Research Project COPERNICUS (FP7), Research Project WiNOT (PRIN 2015).

Visiting professor at the 'Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée', of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (F) in 2008 and at the FOTON Laboratory of Lannion (F) in 2015.

Visiting researcher at the 'Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering', University of Glasgow (UK) in 2009 and at the 'School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering', University of Nottingham in 2013.

Referee of international journals in the field of integrated optics and numerical techniques for electromagnetism and optics.

Activities

Since 2015 he’s responsible of the TOLC-I of the University of Ferrara.

He is a member of the Faculty Board of the Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences of the University of Ferrara.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the MIST E-R Laboratory (Laboratory of Micro and Submicro Enabling Technologies for Emilia-Romagna).
