As in previous years, the DICAM – Geomatic Area will host a Maphaton, a participatory mapping event (crowdmapping) within the framework of the “Open Street Map geography Week awareness”.

The event will take place on 11 November 2019, from 3 pm to 7 pm, at the Aula Magna in Viale Risorgimento 2.

The activity - in English - will take place within the course of applied Geomatics M but is open to anyone interested, students or not. No previous experience is necessary.
During the session, the openstreetmap (MDG) project will be introduced, and participants will learn how to take the first steps in contributing to it. Openstreetmap is a free map of the whole world, constantly created and edited by millions of volunteers around the world with a crowdmapping process, which can provide a basic cartography for areas of the world that lack it; its availability is essential to support disaster emergencies and many humanitarian projects. The mapping actions shall be carried out on the basis of high-resolution satellite images made accessible via the Internet.

The activity of Mapathon 2019 focuses on the topic of extreme weather events and Climate Change.

The event is coordinated by Prof. Gabriele Bitelli, with the collaboration of Emanuele Mandanici, Alessandro Lambertini, Francesca Trevisiol, Pietro Mattivi; similar initiatives are carried out during the “Open Street Map geography awareness Week” in a hundred locations around the world, mostly universities.

NOTE: To actively participate in the initiative you must bring your own laptop (an external mouse is highly recommended).

The registration is appropriate, through the website
