Francesco Mazzucchelli is Senior Assistant Professor (tenured) in the Department of Philosophy and Communication. After receiving his PhD in Semiotics (University of Bologna 2009), he has been a Post-Doc Research Fellow (University of Bologna, Department of Philosophy and Communication) and Adjunct Professor (University of Bologna, Department of Architecture, BA in Industrial Design). He has been awarded research fellowships at several Universities/Institutes where he has spent research periods: NIAS, UvA University of Amsterdam, VU Amsterdam, University of Manchester, Université de Limoges, Fondation Maison Sciences de l'Homme.
His research interests deal mainly with semiotics, which he applies to the study of spatiality and the city, cultural heritage and memory, political discourse, new media and ICT, industrial design.
He is also scientific secretary of TraMe, a center for the interdisciplinary study of cultural memory and traumas.
On 6/8/2018, he received the National Scientific Qualification for the role of Associate Professor in Aesthetics and Philosophy of Language.
