Francesco Alviano was born in Conegliano (Treviso) - Italy on 2nd May 1977.

Awarded Degree in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Bologna with 110/110 cum laude. Dissertation on “Biotechnological study of Amniotic Membrane in the conjunctival allergic diseases: down-regulatory role in the inflammatory and fibrotic processes".

Supervisor: Prof. Gian Paolo Bagnara and Prof. Francesca Levi-Schaffer.

March 2001 - June 2002

Undergraduate student at the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The research program was titled “Biotechnological study of the down-regulating effect of amniotic membrane on the inflammatory and fibrotic process in the conjunctival allergic diseases” under the supervision of Prof. Francesca Levi-Schaffer.

 

Scientific Activity

Actual scientific activity is dedicated to investigating the differentiation potential and the immunomodulatory ability of stem cells isolated from various sources in particular from extraembrional tissues such as Placenta umbilical cord and fetal membranes. He is the author of 66 article in peer-reviewed international journals and over 75 communications to national and international congresses.

2010 - present: founder member, in office as treasurer, of the following scientific society: IPLASS - International Placenta Stem Cell Society.

Founding member, Member of the "Board of Directors" from 18-05-2018 to today of the following scientific society: STEMNET Federation. This federation includes the main Italian scientific societies involved in the field of stem cell research.
