Francesca Roversi Monaco

Associate Professor

Department of History and Cultures

Academic discipline: M-STO/01 Medieval History

Short Bio

Associate Professor of Medieval History since 2014, she works on Historiography and Politics and Institutional History, with particular consideration for historical narration interpreted as the building and invention of shared memory, identity and collective self-knowledge. The past seen as a cultural creation, rebuilt and re-organized with a political function as well as the past as text, are the leading themes of her scholarly analysis, together with the interest for “medievalism” and for the use of the Middle Ages as a myth-engine in the contemporary age.

From 2014 to 2020 she has been the Director of the History Programme. She is a member of the Advisory Board of many periodicals and book series, and she collaborates with some journals (“Studi medievali”; “Bullettino dell'Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medioevo”). She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medioevo (ISIME), of the Istituto per la storia dell'Università di Bologna (ISTUB) and of  the Società Italiana degli Storici Medievisti (SISMED).
