Federica Botti is Associate Professor in Ecclesiastical Law.
Her research interests concern mainly religious freedom in Eastern Europe, the system of relations between the state and the Orthodox faith in Romania and Italy, the return of church property confiscated in the socialist regimes in Albania and Romania, the study of human rights and of religious rights in EU law, the protection of women's rights (female genital mutilation), the issues related to bioethics with particular regard to end of life, places of worship and goods in their cultural and religious dimension.
She is the scientific coordinator of the licodu.cois.it site on human rights and religious freedom in Eastern Europe.
She is currently coordinator and rapporteur for the course for ministers of religion belong to denominations that have not entered into agreements with the Italian State and from non-EU areas. Funded by the Ministry of the Interior, CUP notice: F89G16000270007 - IGC: 6741759386
She is the author of over 30 printed works including 2 monographs and 28 articles in scientific journals and presentations at conferences, receiverships.
She has carried out consultancy work for the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Education in Albania for what concerns the preparation of the Law on Albanian cultural heritage.
She is part of the Editorial Board of the journal Daimon, Comparative Law of Religions, numeral IV of the Notebooks of Ecclesiastical Law and Policy.
For years, she had a role in the formal collaboration with the Academy of Sciences of Albania and with the Academy of Sciences of Bulgaria
Academic Qualifications
Dr. Federica Botti was graduated at the Faculty of
Law,Alma Mater Studiorum, Bologn University, A.Y. 1999-2000,
with the final thesis of Ecclesiastic Law ““Le convenzioni degli
Enti pubblici con le scuole confessionali”.
She obtained her PhD at the International Doctorate of Droit
canonique & Dt relations religions-Etats, University
PARIS-SUD 11, on June 6th, 2007.
Since the 7th of June 2007 is Researcher in Bioethics, title
obtained at Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna with
a thesis on “L'escissione femminile tra cultura ed etica in
Africa”.
She attended with good results the International Summer
School in Law and religion, A.Y. 2004-2005, coordinated by
Prof. Marco Ventura, University of Siena.
She attended with good results the "School for Biotech
Industrial Innovation Management, The second step: Securing
the competitive advantage, July 8-10, 2005, coordinated by
Prof. Marco Ventura, University of Siena.
Research Activity
In 2001 she presented the paper “Sulla natura giuridica dei
protocolli di intesa (per la stipula di convenzioni tra enti
pubblici e privati gestori di scuole religiosamente
caratterizzate)”, then issued within the proceedings of the
conference “Europa delle Regioni e Confessioni Religiose”,
that was the result of the collaboration between the chair of
Ecclesiastic Law of Bologna University and that of the Universidad
de Pays Vasco.
Since 25 March 2002 to 24 September 2003 was part-time employee
(30 hours - 83%) at the Department of Juridical Sciences "A.
Cicu" of the University of Bologna with the qualification D1
Area Technic Area, Technic – Scientific ed data elaboration. Acting
in this qualification she prepared annotated text of regional rules
on ecclesiastic matters, issued by the web site http://feir.cois.it.
Since 2001 to 2003 she participated in the long-term research
project “Federalismo, Regionalismo e competenze in materia
religiosa”, directed by Prof. Enrico Pattaro, up-dating the web
site http://feir.cois.it; she
organised the final conference “Principio di sussidiarietà e
ridistribuzione delle funzioni tra Stato, enti territoriali e
privati”.
Dr. Botti participated as speaker to the studies seminar
“L'Islam tra diritto comune e legislazione speciale”,
Bologna 8 May 2003 with the paper “Legislazione sull'edilizia di
culto e competenze regionale: quale soluzione per l'Islam”.

During the years 2002-2004 she participated in the PRIN project
directed by Prof. Francesco Onida “Federalismo fiscale,
principio di sussidiarietà e neutralità dei servizi erogati” as
member of the research Unit B of Bologna.
Besides she participated in the long-term project 2003-2005
“Federalismo fiscale, principio di sussidiarietà e neutralità
dei servizi erogati. Esperienze a confronto”, directed by Prof.
Giovanni Cimbalo. Within this project, she presented a paper in the
final conference, organised it and edited the proceeding issuing in
collaboration with Dr. Antonello De Oto.
On 30th May 2007 she participated as speaker to the conference
La Religionet le Droit et leur impact sur la société
humaine at Ovidius University of Costanza (Romania) with a
paper in French language Possibilité et matière d'une « Intesa »
entre l' État italien et l'Église Ortodoxe Roumaine ,
(publication in progress on Année Canonique, December
2008).
She participated in the Internationalisation Project of Bologna
University Diritti internazionali, nuove problematiche
giuridiche e globalizzazione. Un'analisi comparata e internazionale
per contribuire alla nascita di un diritto dell'Unione Europea;
besides she organised the final workshop, presented a paper and
edited the workshop proceedings in collaboration with Prof.
Cimbalo.
About her studies on Bioethics, she carried on two individual
researches. The first was on euthanasia in Switzerland; the second
was of closer examination of researches on genital female
mutilations already carried out in her PhD dissertation. The
results of these researches were explained in two treatises.
Dr. Botti participated in the elaboration of e-learning objects
on euthanasia in Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland and
Australia.
As responsible of the office “Research Projects and e-learning
activities” of the Faculty of Law of Bologna University, she
manages and directs the web sites http://licodu.cois.it; http://afrikadu.cois.it.
She worked for the COIS (Interuniversity Consortium of Web
Sites) with her activities of legislation collection and analysis.
Besides she wrote International projects of research and distance
learning, with a contract of professional service with COIS
At present she is researcher with a grant on the subject:

Pariticpation in Research Project:
· Preparation and participation in the Research Project of
National Interest (PRIN) 2005-2007 “Africae diritti
umani”;
· Preparation of the eLearning Call Proposal DG EAC/23/05
project, presented to the EU.
· Participation in the research “Regime giuridico e fiscale
degli edifici di culto e delle loro pertinenze in Italia e
Belgio” (funds project 60% presented by Dr. B. Scalini in
2003).
· Participation in the research Confessioni religiose e
principio di sussidiarietà nell'Unione Europea. (MIUR funds 40%
2003). Research Unit of Bologna directed by Prof. G. Cimbalo:
Confessioni religiose e principio di sussidiarietà in Belgio,
Olanda e Germania.
· In 2002 participation in the research on funds ex 60%,
directed by Prof. G. Cimbalo: Legislazione regionale e rapporti
con le confessioni religiose dopo la modifica del capo V parte
seconda della Costituzione, (lasting two years).

Didactic Activity
At present dr. Botti collaborates with the chair of
Ecclesiastical Law of the Faculty of Law of Bologna University:
support to students, essay marking, seminars keeping; she is a
member of the examination commission of Ecclesiastical Law.
Annually she holds seminars, parallel to the Ecclesiastical Law
courses.
