Ezio Mesini (1956) graduated in Mining Engineering at the University of Bologna in 1981. In 1983 he is a university researcher in the field of hydrocarbons and underground fluids. Subsequently, he became associate (2000) and full professor (2004).
For many years now, he has focused his teaching and research activity on the exploration and cultivation of fluid energy raw materials with particular reference to both technical, environmental and administrative issues, and those related to safety in offshore areas.
In 2017 he has been appointed President of the Committee for the Safety of Sea Operations by the President of the Italian Council of Ministers. He is in charge up to 2024 (see parliamentary hearings to the competent committees of the "Camera" and "Senate").
In 2021 he was awarded the title of Grand Officer - of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic.
In December 2023 he was appointed Scientific Advisor of the Italian Navy for the scientific discipline (biennium 2024-25). Since 2024 he has been a professor of "Energy and Environmental Ethics" at the Military Academy of Modena.
