Ernesto Salzano is a Full Professor of Chemical Plant Design at the University of Bologna, where he serves as the Director of Studies for Chemical and Process Engineering. Additionally, he is an academic board member for the Ph.D. program in Future Earth, Climate Change, and Societal Challenge.
He is Chair of the European Research Area (ERA-Chair) of the Center of Excellence for Safety Research (CESAR), VSB Ostrava, Czech Republic and italian delegate for European Federation of Chemical Engineering, WP Electrostatics.
Prior to his academic career, he worked as a Researcher at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), where he was responsible for the explosion laboratory and served as the coordinator of the Italian Centre of Competence on Industrial Risks for the Italian Civil Protection..
His main research activities refer to: accidental combustion phenomena, runaway reactions, process safety, and industrial risks, including those triggered by external events such as natural disasters (Natech risks), domino effects, and security threats.
Salzano's extensive scientific results includes over 250 articles in scientific journals and books (h=41, Scopus).
