Ernesto Salzano is a Full Professor of Chemical Plant at the University of Bologna, where he serves as the Director of Studies for Chemical and Process Engineering and as an academic board member for the Ph.D. program in Future Earth, Climate Change, and Societal Challenge.
Additionally, he is Chair of the European Research Area (ERA-Chair) of the Centre of Excellence for Safety Research (CESAR), VSB Ostrava (CZ), and the Italian delegate for European Federation of Chemical Engineering, WP Electrostatics.
Before his academic career, he worked as a Researcher at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), where he was responsible for the fire and explosion laboratory and served as the coordinator of the Italian Centre of Competence on Industrial Risks for the Italian Civil Protection.
His main research activities refer to: accidental combustion phenomena (fire and explosion), process safety, and risk assessment, including those triggered by external events such as natural disasters (Natech risks), domino effects, and security. His extensive scientific results include over 250 articles in scientific journals and books (h=42 - Scopus).
