Ernesto Salzano is a Full Professor of Chemical Plant Design at the University of Bologna, where he serves as the Director of Studies for Chemical and Process Engineering. Additionally, he is an academic board member for the Ph.D. program in Future Earth, Climate Change, and Societal Challenge.
From 2015 to 2022, he held the position of Associate Professor of Chemical Plant Design at the same university. Prior to his academic career, Salzano worked as a Researcher at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) from 1995 to 2015, where he was responsible for the explosion laboratory and served as the Director of the Italian Centre of Competence on Industrial Risks for the Italian Civil Protection.
His primary research interests revolve around deflagrative and detonative combustion phenomena (including fires and explosions), runaway reactions, process safety, and the risks posed to critical infrastructures by external events such as natural disasters, domino effects, and security threats.
Salzano's extensive scientific endeavours are evidenced by his publication record, comprising over 250 articles in scientific journals, conference proceedings, and books.
