Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences

Academic discipline: AGR/07 Agricultural Genetics

Curriculum vitae

Education:

  • Elisabetta Frascaroli graduated in Agricultural Sciences (1984) at the University of Bologna with full grades (110/110 cum laude).
  • She carried out research activity on plant breeding (1986-87) at the Institute of Agronomy and field crops of the same University with a fellowship granted by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
  • In 1992 she received her Ph.D with a thesis work on quantitative genetics. In the following years (1992-95) she continued her research at University of Bologna on plant breeding and on the development of methods for gametophytic selection with two subsequent post doctoral fellowships.
  • She became Assistant Professor (researcher) at University of Bologna (Agronomy Department) in 1995, and the position was tenured in 1998.
  • In 1996 she spent several months as visiting scientist to Pioneer “Hi-bred International, Inc.”, Iowa, USA research center to carry statistical methods for quantitative traits analysis (QTL) and for other application of molecular markers.
  • During 1996, she obtained a fellowship in the frame of CNR-NATO Advanced studies for continuing for an additional year her research at the same Pioneer center (USA).
  • In 2012 she obtained a fellowship from the German Service for Academic Exchanges (DAAD) for spending three months at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart, Germany) to study the genetic architecture underlying heterosis in maize.
  • She obtained the scientific abilitation as associate professor in 2014.
  • She became Associated Professor at University of Bologna in2019.

Scientific activity:

  • Elisabetta Frascaroli has carried out studies concerning plant breeding of field crops, with particular emphasis to the integration between conventional classical selection methods and the applications of biotechnological tools. For all these studies maize was taken as model plant.
  • She is Associate Editor for two International Scientific Journal (Euphytica, Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research) and she serves as peer reviewer for other journal (e.g., Euphytica, Theoretical and Applied Genetics, Molecular Breeding, Crop Science, Genetics, Journal of Plant Research, Bioscience Reports, Tree Genetics and Genomes, Trends in Genetics, Science) and for the evaluation of research project (National Science Foundation, USA; The United States - Israel Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund; PLANT-KBBE - Transnational Plant alliance for novel technologies - towards implementing the Knowledge Based Bio-Economy in Europe).
  • She authored more than fifty papers published in international journals and numerous participations to national and international scientific meetings.

Teaching activity:

  • Her teaching duties included courses of Agricultural Genetics (1998-2017) and Genetic Resources (2001-2008) for different Academic Degrees.
  • She served as teacher for some specialistic courses organized by Scientific Societies (Biometric Society, Italian Society of Agricultural Genetics, Italian Society of Agronomy).
  • Since 1999 she is coordinator for Erasmus student exchanges (Facoltà di Agraria, Università di Bologna) with Universities of Leon (Spain), Cartagena (Spain), Dijon (France, discontinued), Coimbra (Portugal, since 2014).
  • She is a member of Doctorate school in Agro-enviromental Sciences and she was part of the committee for the final exam in several instances both in Italy and abroad (Swiss, France).
