Professor at the University of Bologna. From October 2015 he has filled the position of Associate Professor in History of Christianity (Storia del Cristianesimo) at the Dipartement of Cultural Heritage of the University of Bologna, seat of Ravenna.

I graduated in Arts and Humanities, Modern branch, at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan (1989).I benefited from three scholarships di Perfezionamento e Ricerca distributed by the “Fondazione Flaminia per lo Sviluppo dell'Università, la Ricerca Scientifica e l'Istruzione superiore in Romagna” at the Scuola Diretta a Fini Speciali per Archivisti Ravenna, University of Bologna (1990/1993).

I was the technical assistant for the Deanship of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Bologna and the General Services of Scuola Diretta a fini speciali in Ravenna, and then for the Faculty of Preservation of the Cultural Heritage.

I achieved my Ph.D. in Religious History (1995-1999 at the University of Turin, associate centres Universities of Bologna, Milan, Florence and Padova). I got my PhD in 2000 with a dissertation thesis called Gli scritti e le prime traduzioni italiane delle opere di Teresa di Gesù, nel quadro dell'impegno papale post-tridentino, under the supervision of Professors Gabriella Zarri and Carlo Ossola. It was published in 2001.

From the 1st of October 2002, after having won the competition, I have been working as a Researcher at the Faculty of Preservation of the Cultural Heritage – area M-STO/07 History of Christianity and Churches – in particular at the Departement of Histories and Methods for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage University of Bologna (Ravenna). Member of the PhD called “Società, regalità e sacerdozio dal tardo antico al XV” (since 2005-2006 called “Bisanzio ed Eurasia”). From 2006 to 2007 I was member of the Panel of Department of History and Method of Cultural Heritage; in November 2008, I was appointed representative of the Board of Faculty.

The main subject of my researches is: the History of Church and of Religious Orders in connection with the civil society and its evolution, particularly I investigate in the relationship between the politics of the Pope and Spanish monarchy towards the Reformed Carmel and the Oratorio of Filippo Neri. Further researches concern: the politics of Inquisition (XVI th - XVII th century); Preaching and Mission (XVIII th century).

At the moment the theme of preaching is leading me to deep two main area: the secular preaching in Milano diocese during Borromeo period as well as Bartolomeo Maria del Monte's opus, whose work I am editing in the Library and Archive. Particularly, I am studying the value of iconographic and scenic apparatus used by Bartolomeo Dal Monte and his fellows during the missions.

Studies about Congregazione dell'Oratorio have led me to research about the Roman arci-brotherhood of San Girolamo of Carità. Now such an interest is focussing on the brotherhoods born in the Romagna area during the Modern Age. Regarding Papal State I am also studying the theme of of male and female education between 1700 and 1800.

Since January 2010, I joined the working group coordinated by Professors Enrique Giménez López, and Inmaculada Fernández Arrillaga (Dpto. Hist. Medieval, Hist. Moderna y Tecnicas y Sciencias Historiograficas, University of Alicante). This team - in collaboration with the section coordinated by Prof. Miguel Correa Monteiro, University of Lisbon - as part of a larger research project on "El Siglo XVIII Español. Monarquia y Iglesia"focuses its research on “Expulsion y esilio de los Jesuitas de los dominios de Carlos III”.   http://www.cervantesvirtual.com/bib_tematica/jesuitas/investigacion/investigacion.shtml

The expulsion and suppression of Jesuits had an obvious and significant impact on the Papal States that accomodated several thousand Jesuits expelled from the territories of the Iberian monarchy. Legation of Bologna and the Romagna became the center of the collection of Ignatian from the territories of the New World and, specifically, from Mexican lands. At the end of an exhaustive study on the presence and impact of these groups of Jesuits in our territory, I was involved, as representative of the University of Bologna, in the research on these topics sponsored by the University of Alicante.
