5th EASTAP Conference – European Association for the Study of Theatre and Performance
Theatrical Mind: Authorship, Staging and Beyond
curators: Alberto Bentoglio, Claudio Longhi and Daniele Vianello
Milan, May 23rd – 27th, 2022

The 5th EASTAP Conference takes place within the framework of Piccolo Teatro’s International
Festival in May 2022, dedicated to Giogio Strehler and titled Presente indicativo: per Giorgio
Strehler (paesaggi teatrali). The aim of the conference is to offer an in-depth and multi-faceted
examination of the idea of the Theatrical Mind in relation to the various forms of live performance
(from prose to performance and from musical theatre to dance), with attention also on the most recent
developments in digital experimentation and in light of the relationship between theory and practice.
The Conference programme includes: speeches from keynote speakers (Gianina Cărbunariu, Marta
Cuscunà, Marta Górnicka, Chiara Guidi, Caroline Guiela Nguyen, Marcus Lindeen, Constanza
Macras, Ferruccio Marotti, Richard Schechner, Sotterraneo, and Stas Zhyrkov); round tables;
numerous sessions with thematic panels involving artists, experts, researchers and professionals from
the world of live performance; and masterclasses with some of the most important Italian and
international theatrical artists (Marta Górnicka, Saverio La Ruina, Marcus Lindeen, Constanza
Macras, Aglaia Pappas, and Thomas Verstraeten).
Participating in the Conference are Constanza Macras, 2022 EASTAP Associate Artist, and Richard
Schechner, 2022 EASTAP Associate Scholar.
Given the limited number of spaces available, those who wish to attend one or more of the Conference
sessions must send a request to eastapconference2022@piccoloteatromilano.it.
