Full professor (2016) at the University of Bologna, my research fields regard the transmission and enhancement of musical heritage from Antiquity to Modern Age. I realized to broaden in an interdisciplinary sense the horizon of music studies in the ancient world, and I am one of the cofounders of MOISA. International society for the study of Greek and Roman music and its cultural heritage. For about twenty years I have been exploring the narrative of sound events in the documents of travelers.
I have a monograph in progress on music and embryology in Antiquity and various national and international projects, including the Repertorium Musicorum Instrumentorum Antiquorum (RIMAnt), and an international conference on the enhancement of sounds and music in the tradition of Alexander the Great.
After representing the Humanities in the first VRA Commission (2012-16), I currently coordinate the PQA-RIC Commission (2017-). In the VQR 2015-19 I was the coordinator of the disciplines of the arts (Area 10, SUB-GEV2, L-ART/01-08)and M-GEV for the musicological disciplines (L-ART/07 and L-ART/08).
