Academic discipline: L-ART/07 Musicology and History of Music

Short Bio

Full professor (2016) at the University of Bologna, where I have been teaching since 1993, my research fields regard the transmission and enhancement of musical heritage, in two directions. I realized to broaden in an interdisciplinary sense the horizon of music studies in the ancient world, and I participated in founding MOISA. International society for the study of Greek and Roman music and its cultural heritage. For about twenty years I have been exploring a second field of research that concerns the narrative of sound events in the documents of travelers, from Antiquity to the Modern age.

I am writing a monograph on the history of the human music up to Boethius. I am involved in various national and international projects, including those of a database of musical instruments from the ancient Mediterranean, Repertorium Musicorum Instrumentorum Antiquorum (RIMAnt), and an international conference on the enhancement of sounds and music in the tradition of Alexander the Great.
