The research focuses on disorders of the skin appendages, including the hair and the nail. The research group has first described several inflammatory and neoplastic nail disorders and new varieties of inflammatory hair diseases. The guidelines for management of alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, pigmented nail lesions and tumors have been drawn. Nowaday, research is focused on the quality of life of patients with hair loss, on the role of nail psoriasis as prognostic factor for the development of arthropathy, and the side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs on nails. We are also studying side effects of biologics on hair, hirsutism and onychomycosis in children. We are also starting the Italian registry on Frontal Fibrosing alopecia, to evaluate the possible causes of this emerging disease.
