Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since 2014, Prof. Beatrice Albertini conducts research in the field of Pharmaceutical Technology. Her research interests focus on the development and characterization of innovative drug delivery systems, primarily solid dosage forms, aimed at improving the bioavailability of small molecules, phytocomplexes, nutraceuticals, and biomolecules. Her current research is centered on the design of medicines for pediatric use and on the study of polymeric films and the role of eutectic solvents in oral drug delivery.
Education
Prof. Albertini graduated with honors in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (CTF) from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Bologna in 1998 and obtained her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2002.
Academic Career
After five years as a Research Fellow (2001–2006) at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Bologna, she was appointed Assistant Professor (Researcher) in 2006 in the scientific disciplinary sector Pharmaceutical Technology (CHIM/09), affiliated with the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
In 2014, she obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN 2012, competition sector 03/D2) for the position of Associate Professor and has held this position at the University of Bologna since September 15, 2014.
Teaching Activities
Since 2006, Prof. Albertini has continuously taught several courses within the degree programs of the School of Pharmacy. Currently, all her teaching activities are carried out within the Single-Cycle Master's Degree Programme in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (CTF).
She is currently responsible for the following courses:
- Industrial Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Processes (48 hours), Module I of the course Industrial Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Regulatory Affairs;
- Pharmaceutical Technology (32 hours), Module II of the course Pharmaceutical Technology;
- Laboratory of Drug Formulation and Quality Control (60 hours);
- Technology and Regulation of Food Supplements (16 hours).
Research Activities
Prof. Albertini has participated in several national research programs and, since the beginning of her academic career, has developed an extensive network of collaborations with companies operating in the human pharmaceutical, veterinary, cosmetic, and nutraceutical sectors, contributing to applied research, technology transfer, and formulation development activities.
She serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals in the field of Pharmaceutical Technology.
As of June 22, 2026, her scientific output includes:
- 88 publications in international peer-reviewed journals with an Impact Factor (H-index = 35);
- 3 publications in journals without an Impact Factor;
- 2 book chapters in international non-teaching book series;
- 2 patents;
- More than 100 conference communications presented at national and international scientific meetings and published in conference proceedings.
Institutional and Academic Service
Since 2014, Prof. Albertini has been a member of the Area 03 Evaluation Panel within the University of Bologna Research Assessment framework.
She has served as Deputy Coordinator of the Single-Cycle Master's Degree Programme in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (CTF) since the academic year 2021/2022 and has been a member of the Programme Quality Assurance Committee since 2018.
She has also been a member of the University Library Scientific Committee since 2018 and served as the representative of the scientific area on the Steering Committee of the University Library System from academic year 2020/2021 to academic year 2023/2024.
