Born in Faenza (Ravenna) on September 23, 1974, Andrea Luccaroni studied at the School of Engineering and Architecture of the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. He graduated with honors (cum laude) in Building Engineering on March 17, 2000, and obtained his PhD in Architecture ICAR14 (08/D1) on June 4, 2015. In 2022, he earned a Level II Master’s degree in “Innovation Management and Communities” from the University of Ferrara, Faculty of Architecture.

Since 2001, he has been a registered member (No. 1331) of the Order of Engineers of the Province of Ravenna. In 2003, he qualified as a safety coordinator (Legislative Decree 81/2008). In 2006, he became a partner at Cristofani & Lelli Architetti, a firm he had been collaborating with since 2001. In 2009, together with Gabriele Lelli and Roberta Bandini, he co-founded the associated practice Lelli & Associati Architettura, which later became LBLA + partners | [http://www.LBLA.it ].

The firm specializes in architectural and urban design, infrastructure and landscape, interior and industrial design, architectural restoration, and urban redevelopment. The firm's projects have been featured in major Italian and international journals and have received national and international awards. Notably, they were invited to exhibit their work at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, People meet in architecture, directed by Kazuyo Sejima (2010), and at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, Fundamentals, directed by Rem Koolhaas (2014).

In 2015, the firm transitioned to LBLA + partners, expanding its design activities into the United States (Dallas, Fort Worth) and joining the OURlab (Other Urban Resources Lab) research group.

Academic and Research Activity

Since 2000, he has collaborated on courses in Architectural and Urban Composition at the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Bologna. His research interests focus particularly on architecture and composition, smart cities, urban regeneration, public spaces, the architecture of places of remembrance, the phenomenology of shopping and commercial spaces, landscape, and energy.

Since 2006, he has served as an Adjunct Professor for the Architectural Design and Architectural Composition III Lab within the Building Engineering/Architecture integrated master's degree program at the University of Bologna.

Since 2008, as part of his activities within the Department of Architecture at the University of Bologna, he has initiated and coordinated international collaborative relations on urban regeneration projects. These partnerships include the Municipalities of Łódź and Wrocław (Poland), Paris and Bordeaux (France), and Haifa (Israel), as well as the polytechnic universities of Warsaw, Wrocław, and Łódź, the École Supérieure d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme de Bordeaux, and the Neri Bloomfield School of Design in Haifa.

He has been invited as a guest lecturer and design critic at several institutions: for the years 2011 and 2012, at the Directed Studies Abroad (DSA) program of the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism at Carleton University, Ottawa (Canada); in 2013, at the Lodz University of Technology (Poland); and in 2015, at the Neri Bloomfield School of Design in Haifa (Israel).

Public Administration and Institutional Roles

During the 2013–2015 biennium, he served as Vice President of Faventia Sales Spa—a public-private partnership company that owns the former Salesian complex in Faenza. In this role, he managed the strategic and technical oversight of the recovery and redevelopment projects, which included coordinating international design workshops.

From 2015 to 2020, he served as Deputy Mayor (Assessore) of the Municipality of Faenza, with portfolios covering European policies and strategic projects, social cohesion, volunteering, and urban security. During this time, he coordinated the drafting of the 2030 Strategic Plan for the Union of Romagna Faentina, titled "A territory without barriers, without suburbs".

From 2020 to 2026, he was elected City Councillor for the civic list Faenza Cresce, serving as Group Leader and Chairperson of the III Council Commission for "Environment and Land Management".

Since 2023, he has been the President of Farsi Prossimo ODV, a third-sector organization dedicated to the social economy, volunteer training and engagement, and hospitality and support for vulnerable families within the Faenza area.
