Associate professor of Bologna University since 1999, carries out his research activity in the field of General Pathology. The scientific activity of Prof. Bolognesi is focused on the study of plant proteins that inactivate ribosomes (the so-called ribosome-inactivating proteins) with polynucleotide:adenosine glycosylase activity, and their specific "targeting", by conjugation to carriers, in order to obtain selective drugs for anti-tumor and immunosuppressive therapy. Prof. Bolognesi is also involved in research on plant lectins and the oxidative damage caused by the enzyme xanthine oxidase.
