Curriculum vitae

Andrea Augenti holds the chair of Medieval Archaeology anat the University of Bologna, Faculty of Conservation of Cultural Heritage. His main field of study has been the evolution of medieval urban and rural settlements, with a particular interest in the early medieval period. Beginning from 1987 he has taken part in the excavations of the southern slope of the Palatine Hill (Rome), after which he wrote the book Il Palatino nel Medioevo. Archeologia e topografia (secoli VI-XIII) (Rome, 1996). In the same year he has begun to coordinate archaeological survey in the Cecina Valley (PI). Between 1995 and 2000 he took part in a project aimed to cataloguing Tuscany's medieval castles, under the direction of prof. Riccardo Francovich, at the University of Siena. From 2001 to present he is director of the excavations in the abandoned town of Classe (RA), of a project aimed to the evaluation of the archaeological site of Classe, of the archaeological survey in the Decimano territory (RA) and in the area of Reggio Emilia, and of the project aimed to cataloguing the medieval castles of Romagna. Among his interests is included also medieval epigraphy. He is member of the editorial board of the journal ‘Archeologia Medievale', and also Associate Editor of the journal “Medieval Archaeology”. He has also been member of the Comitato Tecnico Scientifico per i Beni Archeologici, Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, from 2007 to 2012..
