Short CV:

Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Bologna since 2024, focusing on the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and deformable objects. Main research interests: computer vision; robotic manipulation; linear deformable object modeling; deep learning for physical systems.

 

Education

Master's Degree in Automation Engineering from the University of Bologna, with a final grade of 110/110 cum laude.

Ph.D. in Biomedical, Electrical, and Systems Engineering (XXXVI Cycle), within the "Automatica e Ricerca Operativa" curriculum, at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Gugliemo Marconi" (DEI) of the University of Bologna, under the supervision of Prof. Gianluca Palli.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2018-2023) at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Gugliemo Marconi" (DEI) of the University of Bologna.

  • REMODEL project (Robotic technologies for the manipulation of complex deformable linear objects), coordinated by Prof. Gianluca Palli, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program (2020-2023).
  • IntelliMan project (AI-Powered Manipulation System for Advanced Robotic Service, Manufacturing, and Prosthetics), coordinated by Prof. Gianluca Palli, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe program (since 2022).

 

Awards and Recognitions

2021 – Best Student Paper Award for the paper: Alessio Caporali, Wendwosen Bellete Bedada, and Gianluca Palli. "A Cyber-Physical System for Clothes Detection, Manipulation and Washing Machine Loading." 2021 IEEE 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS).

2023 – Short Term Research Grant (DAAD) Visiting period at the Robotics and Embedded Systems group of the Technical University of Munich (Germany).

2024 - Finalist at the RomeCup 2024 award "Most promising researcher in robotics and artificial intelligence".
