The research consists of three main topics:
1) Over-expression of recombinant proteins in Escherichia
coli. The aim of this study is to develop an efficient
expression system in bacteria in order to produce high level of
target proteins.
2) Study of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis protein tyrosin-phosphatase A (MpTpA) and analysis of its conformational transition during catalysis by steady-state and pre-staedy-state assays.
3) Study of human and rabbit muscle lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). With regard to the human enzyme, the main objective has been the identification of specific inhibitors capable of interfering with the assembly of the active tetrameric enzyme from LDHA monomers. In the case of rabbit muscle LDH, the research has been aimed at investigating the effects of trehalose on the activity and stability of the enzyme in its tetrameric form.
