Luis Alberto Barron Cedeno

I am Associate Professor at Università di Bologna. I previously worked at QCRI and at TALP. I got my PhD from Universitat Politècnica de València in 2012. I have been working in the intersection of various disciplines, including natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine learning. In particular, I have worked on the (cross-language) assessment of text looking at different aspects such as originality (e.g., plagiarism detection) and intent (e.g., propaganda, hate).

Since December 2023, I am Specialty Chief Editor in Natural Language Processing for Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence.

Since September 2025, I am co-chair of the CLEF initiative.

I was the PI of two UniBO projects: GIARA and !Trans.
