Valeria Franceschini is a full professor in Cell Biology at the
University of Bologna (Italy). In 1983. prof. Franceschini began
her academic career as a researcher in the Institute of Comparative
Anatomy. From 1992 to 2002, she was associate professor. Since
2002, she continued her career at the University of Bologna as a
full professor in Comparatiove anatomy and Cell Biology in the Faculty of Sciences.
Prof. Valeria Franceschini researches are mainly in the field of
the differentiation of the vertebrate central nervous system. Her
research can be subdivised in the following parts:
A) Localization and ultrastructural organization
of Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in the vertebrate encephale
B) Morphological and Histochemical aspects of the
regenerative process in the central nervous system of
Amphibians
C) Amphibiams brain angioarchitecture and
cytochemical analysis of the capillars encephalique in the
development of the brain blood barrier
D) Molecular characterization of glycoconjuguates
in the membrane of olfactory neurons from Vertebrates using the
binding of lectine
E) Studies on the ability of human cord blood-selected
CD133+ stem cells (HSC) to repair the sensory epithelium damaged by
toxic agents.
Professor Valeria Franceschini and her collaborators have published
140 scientific articles with a major part in international
review.
