Valentina Rossi is an art historian and curator.
She graduated in DAMS at the University of Bologna and obtained her PhD in Art History and Performing Arts from the University of Parma in 2017, with a dissertation in contemporary museology focusing on Tate Modern in London and the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin. Her research focuses on curatorial practices, contemporary museology, and the enhancement of cultural heritage, including in digital contexts.
She has been a research fellow at the University of Bologna within the project Art in Transition. Le arti tra sostenibilità ambientale e innovazione digitale. Previously, she held research fellowships at the University of Parma for the PRIN project Fotografia Femminista Italiana: Politiche Identitarie e Strategie di Genere and, between 2020 and 2021, for the project Mostre virtuali e valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale italiano: Design italiano. In 2022, she was awarded a research grant at the CSAC – Centre for Studies and Archive of Communication of the University of Parma.
Since 2013, she has been a member of the editorial board of the academic journal Ricerche di S/Confine, and since 2012 she has been a curator at MoRE Museum. Over the years, she has collaborated with several museums and cultural institutions, including CSAC (Parma), MACRO (Rome), MAXXI (Rome), ARCoS (Benevento), MSU Zagreb, and MAMbo (Bologna).
In 2019, she published the monograph Tate Modern. Pratiche espositive (Postmedia Books) and curated the editorial project Nouvelles Flâneries (Silvana Editoriale). Between 2021 and 2022, she co-curated several volumes, including Hidden Display. Il non realizzato a Bologna (1975–2020) (MAMbo Edizioni), Abitolario. L’esistenza enciclopedica dell’abito nel verso linguistico (Il Poligrafo), Il rituale del serpente. Animali, simboli e trasformazioni (Danilo Montanari Editore), Storie di fili (Il Poligrafo), and the conference proceedings The Lockdown of the Project, published in Ricerche di S/Confine. In 2024, she co-curated with Alessandra Acocella the volume Anni Novanta. Orizzonti creativi e relazioni tra arti visive, moda e design (Postmedia Books).
She has published numerous essays in peer-reviewed (Class A) academic journals, focusing on curatorial practices, fashion studies, museology, and photography. In 2026, her second monograph was published: Vestire a matita. Il disegno nella moda dagli anni Settanta a oggi (Mimesis Edizioni).
