Umberto Meneghetti was born in Mantua in 1937. He took a degree
in Engineering at Bologna University with distinction. He is
married and he has three children.
Since 1962 until 1972 he was lecturer of “Meccanica applicata
alle macchine” (Mechanics of Machinery) at the Faculty of
Engineering of the University of Bologna . In 1969 he took the
“libera docenza” (PhD) in Mechanics of Machinery.
In 1972 he became “Professore Aggregato” (Associate Professor)
of “Costruzione di macchine” (Machine Elements); since November 1,
1973 he is “Professore Ordinario” (Full Professor) of Mechanics of
Machinery at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of
Bologna .
He has given lessons of: Mechanics of Machinery at the Faculties
of Engineering of the Universities of Firenze and Ancona; Machines
for Metal Working at the Calabria University; Driver and
Transmission Mechanics at the Faculty of Engineering of the
University of Bologna in Forlì.
At the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna he
has given lessons of: Mechanical Design, Machine Elements,
Experimental Stress Analysis, Mechanics of Vibration, Mechanics of
Machinery.
He has been dean of the “Consiglio del Corso di laurea in
Ingegneria Meccanica” (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) since
1983 until 1986 and since 2001 since 2005.
He has been Head of the Committee for the Management of the
Mechanical Shop of the Faculty of Engineering since 1980 until 1986
and Head of the Committee for the Management of the Computer Centre
since 1992 until 1995.
He was the first Head of the "Dottorato di ricerca in Meccanica
applicata" (PhD School) of the Universities of Bologna and
Firenze.
He has been Head and Collaborator of a lot of Scientific
Research Projects in the field of Mechanics of Machinery (Cams,
Gears, and so on) and of Mechanics of Vibration (Machinery Health
Monitoring and so on).
He works also as Consulting Engineer of private Companies, Civil
Courts and Italian Government.
He is Member of the "Accademia delle Scienze dell'Istituto di
Bologna" and Emeritus Professor of "Mechanics of Machinery".
He is Author of about hundred printed papers. At present he
is mainly interested in History of Technology and Mechanics of
Vibration.
