Tommaso Ruggeri

Professor Emeritus at the University of Bologna, he was Full Professor of Mathematical Physics from 1980 to 2017. His research focuses on the thermodynamics of irreversible processes, hyperbolic systems, kinetic theory, continuum mechanics, and relativity. In particular, he has contributed to the development of Rational Extended Thermodynamics and to the study of wave propagation, shock waves, and mathematical models for gases, non-Newtonian fluids, and viscoelastic materials.The author of numerous scientific publications and monographs, he has collaborated with distinguished scholars and international research institutions. A National Member of the Accademia dei Lincei and a member of several Italian and European academies, he has received numerous awards and honours, including the Angiola Gili and Cataldo Agostinelli International Prize and the G. I. Taylor Medal of the Society of Engineering Science.
