title:
Search for Hidden Particles with the SHADOWS experiment at the CERN North Area

abstract:
The search for hidden particles is currently one of the most lively directions pursued in high energy physics. The SHADOWS (Search for Hidden And Dark Objects With the SPS) aims to becoming one of the leading experiments in the field. This thesis will focus on the development of the detector design using C++ and Geant codes. The work will be paramount for designing the experiment and assessing its sensitivity to hidden particles. During the thesis the candidate will have the opportunity to staying at CERN for short periods and working in a international environment. (here the experiment proposal)

Applied Physics

The thesis aims to investigate the possibility of fast detectors usage to improve both the events location and the resolution of ToF PET equipment for nuclear medical imaging. The candidate will acquire, in addition to PET
instrumentation state of the art, the knowledge of some nuclear medicine detectors and the control of techniques for the implementation of Monte Carlo dedicated algorithms.

Didactics and History of Physics

New teaching methodologies increasingly require recently developed information technology. The experimental thesis objective is to use the Bologna University official e-learning platform to develop multimedia contents dedicated to physics teaching and to develop tools to improve students' assessment and skills.
