1995 - Former Professor of Maritime Law at the
University of Bologna, Faculty of Law.
Since 2001: Full Tenured Professor of Transport Law at
the University of Bologna, Faculty of Law (Ravenna
Branch).
2014: Coordinator of the Curriculum in Navigation and
Transport Law, University of Bologna, Faculty of Law.
2011 - 2013: Coordinator of the Curriculum in
Transport Law for the Doctorate in “Stato, persona e servizi
nell'Ordinamento Europeo e Internazionale”, University of Bologna,
Faculty of Law.
2012: Auditor for the Evaluation of the Research Products (VQR
2004-2010) for ANVUR, with reference to the disciplinary area
IUS/06 (Navigation Law).
Since 2012: he is member of the Committee of the
Directorate-General for maritime and inland transport of the
Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport entrusted with
task to amend the maritime code.
2001-2012: Coordinator of the Doctorate in European
Transport Law, University of Bologna, Faculty of Law, associated
with the University of Barcelona, Nantes, Southampton, Oslo and
Sassari.
2007 - 2011: Chairman of Polo Scientifico -
Didattico di Ravenna, University of Bologna.
2003 - 2010: President of the Regional Institute for
Transport and Logistics of Emilia Romagna Region.
2005: Coordinator of the Working Group set up by the
Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport with task to amend
the discipline of road transport.
1998 - 2004: Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of
Bologna.
1985 - 1996: Representative of the Italian Government
in the Juridical Committee of International Maritime Organization
(IMO), London, as well as in Diplomatic Conferences at which
several International Conventions were adopted on Nationality of
Vessels (1986), Salvage (1989), Liability for Carriage of
Passengers by Sea (1990), Liability and Compensation for Damage in
Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by
Sea (1996) and Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims
(1996).
He is member of the Committee of the Ministry of
Justice entrusted with task to amend the maritime code; he
is member of the Working Group set up by the European
Commission to establish a Community legal framework on liability
for multimodal transport of goods; he is member of the Working
Group set up by UNCITRAL to draft a new International Convention on
the Carriage of Goods by Sea; and he is member of the Committee set
up by the Ministry of Transport to draft the National Plan for the
Development of Logistics.
He is the advisor for matters connected with transport activities
and liberalisations/privatisations of the Italian Government
(Ministry of Transport), as well as of some Italian regional and
local governments.
He is on the directive board of the reviews
“Rivista del Diritto della Navigazione”, “Il Diritto marittimo” and
“Diritto dei trasporti”.
He is director of the reviews “Rivista Italiana di Diritto del
turismo” and of the review series “Seminari del Master in Diritto
ed Economia dei Trasporti e della Logistica e del Dottorato di
Ricerca in Diritto dei Trasporti Europeo”, and co-director of the
review series “Diritto e pratica dei trasporti”.
He is member of the editorial board of “Journal of
International Maritime Law”, “Revista de Derecho del Transporte”
and “European Journal of Commercial Contract Law”.
Since 2011: he is member of the Scientific Committee of Caracciolo
Foundacion (ACI-Automobil Club d'Italia).
