Fixed-term A type researcher since January 2022 at the University of Bologna-Department of Cultural Heritage, for many years he has been carrying out research in the field of Maritime Archaeology, with particular reference to Nautical Archaeology, History of Navigation and Seamanship in Ancient Times (navigation techniques and practices), addressing especially in the Seamanship field to the comparative investigation between historical-archaeological and ethnographic data.
As professional he carried out numerous excavation campaigns and surveys on wrecks and submerged sites, especially in the Venice lagoon and sea, thus he is operating in underwater archaeology for over twenty-five years. Another important research line is therefore dedicated to the lagoon area, to the methodology of underwater archaeological investigation in this environment, to the settlement and exploitation ways of the lagoon over time (from the Roman Age), to the inland navigation traditions and to the boats types.
