Stefano Masiero was born and studied in Bologna. He graduated in industrial chemistry with full marks in 1985. After a one year AIRI (Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca Industriale) fellowship on industrial catalysis, he started his Ph.D project in organic chemistry at Bologna University in 1987. Part of the Ph.D. work was carried out at the University of Nijmegen (NL) thanks to an Erasmus program grant. He received his Ph.D. in 1990. In 1992 and 1993 he held two subsequent grants on “new liquid crystalline materials” from CNR (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche-Progetto chimica fine II). In 1994 he was appointed Research Associate at the Department of Organic Chemistry of the University of Bologna. In 2007 he has been appointed Associate Professor in organic chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Bologna University and he is currently member of the Department “G. Ciamician”. In 2017 S.M. qualified for Full Professor of Organic Chemistry.
S.M. is (co)author of 90 papers in organic chemistry on international journals and more than 100 communications at national/international conferences. He has participated, with various roles, to several (14) research projects, both international (NATO, FP7, EPRSC,) and national (PRIN).
His current research interests are in the field of supramolecular chemistry: synthesis, characterization and applications of supramolecular assemblies; synthesis and characterization of photoresponsive supramolecular systems for energy conversion.
