Education

She graduated in Law from the University of Bologna, with a thesis in Criminology entitled «“Social Capital” and Deviance among Immigrants in Italian Regions». She, subsequently, obtained a PhD in Criminology from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, defending a dissertation entitled «Integration Strategies of Foreigners between Society and Prison: A Study in Emilia-Romagna and Calabria».


Academic Career and Teaching Activities

From the academic year 2006–2007 to 2018–2019, she collaborated with the Chair of Criminology at the School of Law of the University of Bologna, contributing to the organization of the seminar “Cities and Deviance: Urban Security”.

In the academic year 2012–2013, she was appointed lecturer for Module 2 of the "Criminology" course taught by Professor Dario Melossi at the School of Law of the University of Bologna.

In the academic year 2018–2019, she was appointed as professor for the courses "History and Theory of Criminology" and "Comparative and International Criminology (Module 2)" at the Department of Legal Studies and the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Bologna.

From the academic year 2019–2020 to 2021–2022, she taught "Criminology, Economic Crime and Corporate Crime (Module 2)" within the degree programme Law for Business and Public Administration at the University of Bologna, Ravenna Campus, as well as "Criminology (Module 2)" at the School of Law, University of Bologna, Ravenna Campus. 

She is associate professor in the Law degree programme at the University of Bologna, teaching the courses: "Crime, Gender and Violence - Module 2" (since the academic year 2019–2020); "Crime, Punishment and Society" (since the academic year 2022-2023); "Urban Security and Policing - Module 1" (since the academic year 2023-2024); "Introduction to Criminology and Social Control" (since the academic year 2025-2026).


Research Activity

Since 2006, she has conducted socio-criminological research on issues including juvenile deviance, youth street groups, urban security, migration processes, the criminalization of immigrants, labor exploitation, Islamic radicalization, organized crime (mafias), and gender-based violence, including violence in intimate relationships.

She has participated in national and European research projects, holding positions as a research fellow at the Department of Legal Studies of the University of Bologna and collaborating with: the Department of Sociology and Law of the Economy at the Forlì Campus of the University of Bologna; the Service for the Promotion and Development of Security Policies and Local Police of the Emilia-Romagna Region; the Office of the Regional Ombudsman of the Emilia-Romagna Region; the Italian Forum for Urban Security; the Carlo Cattaneo Research Foundation in Bologna; and the Provincial Observatory on Organized Crime of the Province of Rimini.
She has participated in research teams within PRIN-funded projects on policing and urban security.
She has carried out and continues to carry out coordination and consultancy activities, in local, national and European projects, on juvenile deviance and prevention and security policies, in collaboration with several municipalities in the Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy regions.


Membership in Scientific and Editorial Boards

Since 2006, she has been a member of the editorial board and editorial staff of the journal "Studi sulla questione criminale. Nuova serie di Dei delitti e delle pene", published by Carocci Editore.
Since 2023, she has been a member of the scientific committee of the series "Sociorama. Norme, potere, controllo sociale" by PM Edizioni.
Since 2025, she has been a member of the editorial board of the journal "Disagio, devianza e criminalità", published by PM Edizioni.

She serves as a peer reviewer for both international and Italian journals in the fields of Criminology and the Sociology of Deviance


Other Activities

She teaches within the Master’s programme "Critical Criminology and Social Security: Deviance, Cities and Prevention Policies" offered jointly by the Universities of Padua and Bologna, as well as in the Master’s programme "Criminology and Security Policies" at the University of Bari.

She has also taught in training courses organized by the Interregional School of Local Police in Modena and the National School of Public Administration in Rome, and continues to provide training for various professional groups.
