Sofia Ciavarella

I am a PhD student in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (WORLDLIT curriculum) at the University of Bologna, under the supervision of Prof. Edoardo Balletta.

I am also a member of the International PhD College of the Collegio Superiore in Bologna.

I hold a BA in Foreign Languages and Literatures and an MA in Modern, Post-colonial and Comparative Literatures from the University of Bologna. In 2019 I was awarded an Erasmus+ scholarship to study at King’s College London, and in 2022 I received an Overseas scholarship to study at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

I specialise in Latin-American literature and my research project focuses on contemporary Argentinian speculative fiction, exploring its dialogue with the 19th-century national literary canon. I am also a member of the PRIN 2022 research project Getting Ready for the Present: New Global Dystopian Imaginaries and Public Engagement.
