Born in Venice on Jan. 24th 1975.

 

STUDIES:

1998   Degree with honors in Geology (Geophysics and Structural Geology).
2002   Ph.D. in Earth Sciences (Dep. of Physics, University of Bologna, and Edinburgh Parallel Computer Centre, U.K.) sul tema: “Studio del Meccanismo Sismico in Laboratorio ed al Calcolatore”.

RESEARCH:

2000   Research grant at the Edinburgh Parallel Computer Centre to lear paralle computer programming.
2002   Research visitor at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) to learn  time-dependent seismic hazard estimation techniques.
2002-2004   Reasearch grant on funds of the National Seismic Service to compile time-dependent seismic hazard maps for Italy.
2003-2007   Creation and maintenance of www.terraemoti.net, database of Italian earthquakes.
2004-2006   Participant at the DPC-INGV 2004-2006 project ‘S3 – Shaking scenarios in strategic areas' (seismic microzonation).
2005-2006   Research grant on “The fault's heat flow paradox" at the dep. of Physics, University of Bologna.
2006-2007   Participant at the INGV-DTC V3 6/25-242 ETNA  project to develop pattern recognition algorithms based on supervised and non supervised artificial neural networks for the classification of eruption precursors.
2007-2008   Research grant on “Pattern recognition of the Mount Etna eruptions" at the dep. of Physics, University of Bologna.
2007-2008   Invited participant at the European Project FP6 NISMIST on “Analysis and management of municipal solid waste landfills in seismically active regions in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan)” led by the Ecole Nationale des Travaux Publics de L'Etat (ENTPE, Lyon, France), the Institut für Geotechnik, Universität für Bodenkultur (Vienna, Austria) and other Asiatic institutions.
2008-2009   Research grant on “Passive seismics for seismic site effect assessment” at the dep. of Physics, University of Bologna.
2011        Researcher position at the University of Bologna (GEO/10: Solid Earth Geophysics).
2011-2013   Participant at the European 7th framework programme on “Study of Multi-building Interactions and Site-City Effect through an idealized experimental model”.
 

TEACHING ACTIVITY:

2001-2008   Assistant teacher of the course "Physics of the Earth" for the degree course in Geology (University of Bologna).

2007-2009   Assistant teacher of the course “Geodata elaboration” and “Earthquake forcasting and seismic hazard” for the degree course in Geology (University of Bologna).

2006-today   Teacher in more than 50 schools/courses/workshops addressed to geologists and engineers on seismic microzonation and construction in seismic areas.

2011        Invited speaker at the 4th IASPEI / IAEE International Symposium (22-26 agosto 2011, Santa Barbara, California): Effects of Surface Geology on Strong Ground Motion. The Vs30 Debate: How We Can and Cannot Use Vs30 in Site Response Estimation.

2011-2012, 2012-2013   Professor of “Applied Seismology”, for the degree course in Geology (University of Bologna).

PUBLIC CHARGES ON SEISMIC MICROZONATION:

2006-2012   Geophysical investigations and analyses for the seismic microzonation of more than 20 municipalities in Italy.

2009        Collaboration to the geophysical characterization of the sites hosting the seismic stations of Southern California (USGS project).

 

RELATED ACTIVITIES:

2002-2010     Co-relator of more than 20 degree thesis in Geoscience (Univerisity of Bologna).

1999-2010     Author of more than 70 oral presentations (some under invitation) at national and international meretings, schools and workshops.
