Adjunct Professor at the University of Bologna in the academic years 2023/2024 and 2025/2026, she conducts her research in the field of classical Japanese literature. Her research interests focus in particular on the dynamics of male–female relationships as depicted in the narrative and poetry of the Heian period, and on the cultural impact in contemporary Japan of the conception of relationships Heian literature conveyed. Her current work centres on the historical and literary figure of the imperial priestesses (Saiō) and on the ideal of femininity they embody.
Education
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Oriental Languages and Civilizations in 2013 from the Department Italian Institute of Oriental Studies at “Sapienza” University of Rome, where she subsequently obtained her Master’s degree in Oriental Languages and Civilizations in 2016 and her PhD in Asian and African Civilizations in 2020.
Academic career
After several years of teaching as an adjunct professor (from 2020 to 2023) in Japanese Language and Literature at “Sapienza” University of Rome, Japanese Language and Culture at the University of Bergamo, and Languages and Civilizations of Japan at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, she has served, in a.a. 2023-2024, as Adjunct Professor of Japanese Literature at the University of Bologna. She's been a Visiting Researcher in the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken) in Kyoto with a JF-Nichibunken Post-doc fellowship in a.a. 2024-2025.
Teaching activities
Since 2020 she has taught regularly, holding various courses within the disciplinary field L-OR/22 (Japanese Language, Japanese Literature, Japanese Culture) for both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at several universities (Bologna, Rome, Bergamo, Perugia).
