Full Professor of Petrology at the University of Bologna since 2025. My research focuses primarily on magma petrogenesis and magma–crust interaction, with particular emphasis on volatile elements and on methods for reconstructing their emissions during major volcanic events in Earth’s geological history.
I have worked on the volcanostratigraphy and reconstruction of mantle sources of Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs), mainly the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province, the Oslo Rift, and the Siberian Traps. I have expertise in developing geochemical models of partial mantle melting and magmatic evolution.
I lead the ERC Consolidator Grant project DEGAS – Deconvolving sources and sinks of carbon and sulfur in magmas to reconstruct DEGASsing from Large Igneous Provinces.
