  • 1995-1998: Xi'an Centre for the conservation and restoration of cultural relics, Xi'an (P.R of China), Head of the scientific laboratory (in the framework of a cooperation project between the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Cultural Affairs)
  • 1998-2002: ICCROM, International centre for the study of the preservation and restoration of cultural property (Intergovernmental organisation established by UNESCO), Project manager in Science for Conservation programmes

Field of expertise

Archaeometry and diagnostic investigation aimed at characterising the state of conservation and material constitution of painted surfaces (on canvas and wood, frescoes and mural paintings) and metals (archaeological and exposed outdoor). Author of more than 60scientific papers in the field of conservation science, published in national and international scientific journals. Application of mapping and imaging micro FTIR spectroscopy to the characterization of binders and pigments in painted works of art.

  • Establishment of the “Xi'an Centre for the conservation and restoration of cultural relics, Xi'an (P.R of China). Coordinator of the Scientific laboratories, 1995-1998.
