Keywords: Quantum field theory Geometrical aspects of field theory String and (mem)brane theory

The research activity aims to the study of certain formal aspects of string and membrane theory  which can be reduced to problems of geometry and topology and therefore can be dealt with advanced mathematical methods different from the traditional ones of field theory. Quantization is implemented using advanced techniques such as the Batalin-Vilkoviski algorithm in the geometrical formulation of Alexandrov-Kontsevich-Schwartz-Zaboronsky and functional integration. In particular, one studies topological field theory and higher gauge theory, which are amenable by this approach. The research can be framed in the broader context of the solution of the problem of quantization of gravity and unification of fundamental interactions.
