Synthesis of phage-sensitizer hybrids for photodynamic, sonodynamic and photothermal applications
Photodynamic, sonodynamic and photothermal therapies (PDT, SDT and PTT) are non-invasive treatments for different types of cancer. Their mechanism is based on the combination of sensitizers and focused electromagnetic irradiation for PDT and PTT or ultrasound for SDT, generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) or heat (in PTT). These kind of treatments have the potential to act specifically at the desired site of action, lowering the collateral damage to healthy cells due to bioconjugation of the sensitizers to genetically retargeted phages.
