He is research fellow at the “Carlo F. Dondena Centre for Research on Social Dynamics and at the "Centro Studi su Mobilità, Diversità e Inclusione Sociale (MODI)", University of Bologna..

He acts as referee for some leading Italian and international journals concerning social research and population studies: Advances in Life Course Research, Demographic Research, European Journal of Population, Genus, Journal of Population Research, Polis, Popolazione e Storia, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, Social Indicators Research, Social Science Journal, Stato e Mercato.

He was elected member of the steering committee of the Italian Association for Population Studies, Demography section of the Italian Statistical Society for the period 2011-2015.

He acted as referee for the evaluation of PRIN research projects on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).

He is member of the Italian Association for Population Studies (AISP), the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) and the Società Italiana di Demografia Storica (SIDeS).
