Rita Maria Fabris has been a tenure-track researcher in Performing Arts at the Department of Arts, University of Bologna, since 1 October 2024. She teaches History of New Theatre on the Bachelor’s degree programme in DAMS, History and Historiography of Modern and Contemporary Theatre, and Community Dance on the Master’s degree programme in Music and Theatre Studies.
Her research focuses on the history of theatrical dance in Italy and Denmark between the 18th and 19th centuries, analysing cultural policies, aesthetics, reception and reconstruction.
In the contemporary sphere, she works on community performing arts, combining theoretical research, performance-based teaching and practical projects in the field, with a particular focus on impact assessment processes.
She is currently conducting research into choreographic scores and the origins of stage direction in ballet productions and theatrical stagings by August Bournonville in Copenhagen and Stockholm.
