Rita Fioresi is a Full Professor at the University of Bologna. Her research encompasses pure mathematics, such as Lie theory and quantum groups, as well as more applied topics including deep learning, geometric deep learning, quantum computing, and the geometric and algebraic structures for their modeling.
After earning a PhD in Mathematics from UCLA, she taught for two years in the United States before returning to Italy, where she held various positions at the University of Bologna. Since 2021, she has coordinated EU-funded research projects, including the MSCA doctoral networks CaLiFoRNIA and Staff Exchange CaLIGOLA, and is Action Chair of the COST Action CaLISTA, initiatives that aim to promote collaboration at the interface between mathematics and artificial intelligence.
She serves on numerous editorial and academic boards and is an active member of organizations such as European Women in Mathematics and the ELLIS Society for Artificial Intelligence. In all these roles, the goal is to build bridges—across disciplines, communities, and ideas—through rigorous research and meaningful collaboration.
