Associate professor at the University of Bologna since 2013, he carries out his research in the field of neurology, clinical neurobiology and neuropathology. His research interests are mainly focused on prion and prion-like neurodegenerative diseases. Current research projects include the study of the molecular basis of prion strains and phenotypic variability and the development and validation of biomarkers for early clinical diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of neurodegenerative diseases. He is engaged in national and international research projects, collaborates with various National and Foreign Institutes. He has authored as first or senior author numerous publications in prestigious international journals (including Acta Neuropathologica, Annals of Neurology, Brain, PNAS, Nature, Neurology, JNNP). He is a member of the Editorial board of Acta Neuropathologica (I.F. 14,251, ranked 1st in the discipline Pathology).
