Short Bio

Junior Researcher in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Bologna. His research involves the development of novel machine learning and deep learning architectures for analysing large astronomical datasets (such as SDSS, WISE, and Euclid). His main research interests are focused on the AGN-host galaxy co-evolution, with a particular emphasis on the detection and characterisation of obscured Type II Quasars using both SED fitting and machine learning tools.

Education

He received his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Porto in 2025. His dissertation was titled, "Classification and Characterisation of Galaxies using Novel Machine Learning Methods". He earned a Master's Degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Porto in 2021 , and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Minho in 2019.

Academic Career

He is currently a Junior Researcher at the Department of Physics and Astronomy "Augusto Righi" at the University of Bologna. During his PhD, he was a researcher at the Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA) and the Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP), supported by an FCT PhD Research Studentship. He has been the Principal Investigator (P.I.) for a High-Performance Computing project and is the Co-P.I. for the "AstroLingua" project, which utilizes Google Cloud resources to explore Large Language Models for inclusivity in astronomy.
