Curriculum vitae

Paolo Paronuzzi is an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" (DEI), University of Bologna, where he conducts research and teaches courses in Operations Research.

Education

He received his B.Sc. in Information Engineering from the University of Trieste in 2012, his M.Sc. in Management Engineering from the University of Bologna in 2015, and his Ph.D. in Biomedical, Electrical and Systems Engineering (curriculum in Operations Research) from the University of Bologna in 2020.

Academic Career

After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering of the University of Bologna. Since September 2022, he has been an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) at the same department.

During his academic career, he has held research visits at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center (USA), Université Paris Dauphine (France), and TU Dortmund University (Germany).

Teaching Activities

He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Operations Research at the University of Bologna. He also lectures in the Ph.D. programme in Biomedical, Electrical and Systems Engineering and supervises Bachelor's and Master's thesis projects.

Research Activities

His research focuses on the development of mathematical models, exact algorithms, heuristics, and matheuristics for combinatorial optimization and mathematical programming problems, with applications to network design, vehicle routing, logistics, and stochastic and robust optimization.

He has participated in several national and international research projects, including the Horizon 2020 project PlaMES – Integrated Planning of Multi Energy Systems, and collaborates with research groups in Italy and abroad.

He serves as a reviewer for international journals in Operations Research and Optimization. Since 2024, he has been a member of the Executive Board of the Italian Operations Research Society (AIRO).
