Prof. Paolo Baldissara was born in Bondeno (FE) on 29 August 1965.
In July 1984 he obtained the high school diploma with points 58/60. In October 1984 he enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Ferrara, Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, passing the appropriate admission exam.
Graduated in Dentistry on March 26, 1990 with points 109/110 discussing the experimental thesis "The effects of thermal stimuli on pulp-dentinal biology and physiology: the response to controlled heat administration in vivo and in vitro", published in 1994 in the scientific journal Minerva Stomatologica with the title “Clinical-experimental evaluation of the influence of the blood circulation on parapulpal thermal levels”.
He obtains the Qualification to practice as a Dentist in the first session of the year 1990.
Scientific and didactic activity
From 1990 to 1991 he carried out teaching and research activities collaborating in the practical exercises of the Odontostomatology Clinic at the Institute of Dental Clinic of the University of Ferrara directed by Prof. Giorgio Calura.
In the year 1991-1992 he carried out the Civil Service as a substitute for conscription at the same Institute, collaborating in the clinical, research, assistance and operational activities of the Surgery department. He collaborates in the preparation of teaching and research material relating to the Teachings of Odontostomatology Clinic and Special Odontostomatology Pathology held by Prof. Giorgio Calura, developing a system to measure the molecular permeability of human dentin and designing an equipment to perform standardized radiographs on animals laboratory. In the same period he made numerous didactic films in the field of Odontostomatological Surgery.
From 1992 to 1993 he carried out teaching and clinical research activities, collaborating in the teaching and practical exercises of Prosthetics in the context of the Chair of Dental Prosthetics held by Prof. Roberto Scotti at the same Institute.
He continued to carry out teaching, clinical, dissemination and research activities as a Contract Professor at the Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics of the University of Ferrara for the following AAs:
1994-95: Practical notions of Fixed Prosthesis (Prosthesis III); 1995-96: Practical notions of Fixed Prosthesis (prosthesis II); 1996-97: Practical Notions of Fixed Prosthesis (prosthesis II).
For the year 1997-98 he is Tutor in the Dental Prosthesis II Course at the Chair of Prosthesis held by Prof. Roberto Scotti at the University of Bologna, collaborating in clinical, teaching and research activities.

Notes on clinical and scientific research activities
Clinical and research activities are focused on the topic of dental prosthesis, fixed prosthesis and dental materials in particular. In this context, he has often built directly or at least designed the equipment necessary for his own research. This was possible thanks to the knowledge of the techniques, materials and mechanical principles that govern these creations. Below is a list of the original devices developed during his postgraduate activity:
1989: thermal stimulation system with metal alloy caps and thermoresistances made by himself to measure the effects of heat on pulp-dentinal physiology;
1990: craniostat to perform standardized radiographs on laboratory animals;
1990: Teflon cell system to measure the hydraulic conductance of dentin; 1991: Teflon pressurization cell to simulate the physiological conditions of the dentine during laser exposure;
1991: axial scanning mechanical system to precisely define the energy densities during laser treatment of dental hard tissues;
1992: Thermostated bath with further air temperature control to simulate dental thermal conditions;
1996: mold in epoxy resin loaded to replicate fixed prostheses of 5 elements with relative cast metal abutments for mechanical tests;
1996: realization of a machine to evaluate the cutting efficiency of burs for dental preparations, with relative thermal control, of the applied force and of the working cuts;
1996: design and construction of a pressurized autoclave for the construction of fixed prostheses made of Kevlar and epoxy resin.
1997: invention of a dental technique for the reinforcement of fixed prostheses by means of rigid bars of fibers in an epoxy matrix;
1998: improvement of the machine to evaluate the cutting efficiency of rotating instruments with a computerized detection system of the thermal variations inside the samples;
1999: improvement of the protocol of thermal stimulation and detection of the intrapulpary temperature by means of sensors and plates in gold alloy;
1999-2002: design and construction of a machine for material fatigue cycles (fig. 1) capable of working in wet conditions at 37 ° C on six samples at the same time. This machine is equipped with an interface to a personal computer and a sensor system capable of detecting yielding of the samples. It can work in compression, traction and impact. The magnitude of the force and the frequency of the cycles are variable at will. It has been used in the last two years for numerous researches on various materials, including adhesive cements, fiber posts, metal free ceromere prostheses and implant-prosthetic restorations.
2005-2008: in collaboration with IMAMOTER (University of Ferrara) and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ferrara, designs and builds a numerical control machine for the processing of composite materials based on synthetic fibers.
2005: publishes a patent on the construction of easily removable fiber endocanal posts with differentiated modulus of elasticity, perfecting their construction methods and characterizing their properties. Overfibers srl acquires the commercial exploitation rights of said patent.
2012 -2013: designs and builds a machine to generate wear and fatigue stresses on restorative materials with brittle fracture (composites, ceramics, etc.) which is based on the principle of the ball-mill, fine-tuning the statistical and data collection protocol;
The great passion and enthusiasm in the search for innovative solutions in the prosthetic and surgical field has allowed the creation and subsequent refinement of original techniques in which dental materials are used in a targeted way to increase the clinical efficiency of rehabilitations.
The development of innovative materials and technological procedures in the construction of fixed prostheses, the study of dental materials with different protocols to evaluate their resistance and stability properties has been the subject of in-depth studies, as documented by scientific publications.
He is co-author of the text “Preparatory Course of Fixed Prosthesis, Syllabus” which, illustrating in detail the operational sequences of each single practical step, is used by students during their practical training on simulation mannequins. In collaboration with Prof. Roberto Scotti and Prof. Marco Ferrari he wrote the fifth chapter "Mechanical properties and in vitro evaluation" of the book "Fiber posts, theoretical assumptions and clinical applications" published by Masson, Milan 2002.
CLINICAL AND CARE ACTIVITY
The clinical activity carried out by Dr. Paolo Baldissara has mainly involved the prosthetic, surgical-implant and periodontal disciplines.
From 1990 to 1991 he carried out clinical and assistance activities in the teaching of Odontostomatology Clinic at the Institute of Dental Clinic of the University of Ferrara directed by Prof. Giorgio Calura.
In the year 1991-1992 he carried out the Civil Service as a substitute for conscription at the same Institute, collaborating in the clinical, assistance (in particular disabled patients) and organizational activities of the Surgery service. In the same period he made numerous didactic films in the field of Odontostomatological Surgery.
From 1992 to 1993 he carried out assistance activities collaborating in the clinical teaching and practical exercises of Prosthetics in the context of the Chair of Dental Prosthetics held by Prof. Roberto Scotti at the same Institute.
He continued to carry out clinical and assistance activities following patients as a Contract Professor at the Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics of the University of Ferrara for the following AAs:

In addition, he conducts the clinical didactic activity on the patients of the Salone Scuola together with the students of the fifth year of CLOPD in the context of teaching Prosthetics III.
For the year 1998-99 he is contract professor of Implant Prosthesis at the Chair of Dental Prosthetics at the University of Bologna, continuing to carry out teaching activities in the field of prosthetics and oral surgery. continuing to conduct the clinical didactic activity on the patients of the Salone Scuola together with the students of the fifth year of CLOPD in the context of teaching Prosthetics III.
On 1 October 1999 he took up his post as a researcher (sector F 13 B) at the Department of Odontostomatological Sciences of the University of Bologna, carrying out clinical and assistance activities in the Prosthesis Department to which he still belongs.
From March 2020 in conjunction with the covid-19 pandemic, it renounces full clinical activity in favor of teaching and research activities only.
Notes on clinical and CARE activity
The clinical activity is oriented on the multidisciplinary treatment of patients in whom the Dental Prosthesis is combined with periodontal, oral, maxillofacial, and implant surgery, as documented by the countless clinical cases treated in the Department of Dental Prosthetics of the University of Bologna since since 1997, and in the departments of Surgery and Prosthetics of the University of Ferrara since 1991.
From 1990 to 1991 he carried out clinical and assistance activities in the field of Surgery and Periodontology at the Institute of Dental Clinic of the University of Ferrara directed by Prof. Giorgio Calura.
In the year 1991-1992 he carried out the Civil Service as a substitute for conscription at the same Institute, collaborating in the clinical, assistance and operational activities of the Surgery department. He collaborates in the preparation of the material for surgical teaching relating to the Odontostomatological Clinic and Special Odontostomatological Pathology teachings held by Prof. Giorgio Calura. In the same period he made numerous didactic films of interventions and operations, also under general anesthesia, in the field of Odontostomatological and Maxillofacial Surgery.
From 1992 to 1993 he carried out clinical research, collaborating in the teaching and practical exercises of Prosthetics in the context of the Chair of Dental Prosthetics held by Prof. Roberto Scotti at the same Institute.
He continued to carry out clinical activity as Adjunct Professor at the Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics of the University of Ferrara, with the "Practical Notions of Fixed Prosthesis" course for the following academic years: 1994-1995, 1995 -1996, 1996 -1997.

Since 1 October 1999, as a researcher at the Department of Odontostomatological Sciences of the University of Bologna, he has been carrying out clinical, assistance and organizational activities as a member of the Dental Prosthetics Department, where he still serves today mainly dealing with Prosthetics and Implantoprosthesis.
since 2006 he is Adjunct Professor for the assignment of teaching of Dental Materials, Prosthetic and Laboratory Technologies and related internships at the Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics.
During the period 1997-2019, Dr. Paolo Baldissara visited and conducted therapeutic diagnoses on hundreds of patients, conducting treatment plans that can be defined as complex cases of a multidisciplinary nature, many of which conducted in collaboration with Department colleagues from other disciplines. dentistry, addressing the diagnosis and therapy of prosthetic and implant-prosthetic cases that modern dentistry requires.
