Short Bio

At UniBo since 2015, I work on the functioning and governance of the international and monetary system. My latest book, The Cost of Free Money. How Unfettered Capital Threaten Our Economic Future, (Yale University Press, 2020, https://www.yalebooks.co.uk/display.asp?K=9780300244045) looks ar how unfettered capital has resulted in a string of financial and economic crises that have left our political systems strained and dialogue corroded.

In The People’s Money. How China is building a global currency (Columbia University Press, 2016 and 2018, https://cup.columbia.edu/book/the-peoples-money/9780231173469) I discuss China's 'renminbi strategy' to develop it in an international currency.

I regularly write for Project Syndicate.

I am also the chair of the Global Policy Institute, Queen Mary University of London, and a non-executive director of SMT PLC and of BRGE PLC.

I studied at Università Bocconi in Milan and at the University of Oxford.
