PAOLA FABBRI

Associate Professor, from 15/10/2014

Materials Science and Technology.

Department of Civil Chemical Environmental and Materials Engineering  (DICAM)

University of Bologna

Paola Fabbri was born on the 18.dec.1974 in Bologna (Italy). She received in year 1999 a Master Degree in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Bologna (Italy), following courses related to the area of Research and Development of New Materials. During years 2001-2003 she followed a Master Course in Biomaterials at the University of Trento and Polytechnic of Milan (Italy), finally defending a thesis entitled “On the importance of Surface Properties in Polymeric Biomaterials”. In year 2003 she defended her PhD thesis in Materials Enigineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy), entitled “Modification of Surface and Interfacial Properties in Polymeric Materials”. After two years of post-doc research spent at the University of Bologna (Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry) and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Department of Materials Engineering), in year 2005 she got a permanent position as Assistant Professor in Materials Science and Technology at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy), where she taught several courses related to polymeric materials and manages research activities mainly focused on the synthesis and characterization of new polymeric and copolymeric structures for specific applications, and materials for advanced applications. Main research topics are:

-       Polymers for engineering applications (mainly in the automotive field);

-       polymers based on perfluoropolyethers, and surface modification of common polymeric matrices trough their use as additives;

-       surface and interface modification of conventional polymeric matrices;

-       compatibilization of immiscibile polymer blends;

-       organic/inorganic nanostructured hybrid materials;

-       polymers for biomedical applications and tissue-engineering;

-       polymers recycling;

-       materials for optoelectronic applications.

She is author of 60 papers published in peer-reviewed international journals, 3 book chapters and 3 patents. List of 10 selected publications:
