Curriculum vitae

Senior Assistant Professor (fixed-term) at the University of Bologna since 2020, his research focuses on Medieval and Early-Modern Italian Literature (most notably Dante, Boccaccio and Ariosto) as well as on religious and didactic literature between 13th and 16th centuries. He studies also 20th century Italian literature (Giuseppe Raimondi).

Education

He obtained a BA in Italian Studies in 2006 from the University of Bologna and an MA in Italian Studies in 2008 from the same University; during his MA he was also member of the Collegio Superiore. He obtained his PhD in Italian Studies in 2012 from the University of Pisa; in Spring 2010 he was Visiting PhD Student at the University of Cambridge.

Academic history

After a 3 years Post-doctoral Fellowship at the University of Leeds (2012-2015), he joined the University of Edinburgh in 2015 as Lecturer and the University of Bologna in 2020 as Senior Assistant Professor (fixed-term), where he is part of the Department of Cultural Heritage within the Schools of Modern Languages and Cultural Heritage. In March 2018 he obtained his Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale as Associate Professor.

Teaching

Between 2015-2020 he taught several modules at the University of Edinburgh. He is currently tutor on the Italian literature course within the degree in Cultural Heritage.

Research

He took part to several research projects at both a national and international level, e.g. the projects: Dante and Late-Medieval Florence: theology in poetry, practice and society (AHRC 2012-2015), Italian voices (oral culture, manuscript and print in Early Modern Italy, 1450-1700) (ERC).

Between 2019-2020 he was Principal Investigator of the project Interpretation and uses of the Psalms in Dante’s Comedy (RSE).

In autumn 2017 he was Visiting Professor at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” within the project Italian Humanism between cloisters and confraternities. Monastic life and preaching from Petrarch to Machiavelli.

He served as referee to several national and international peer-review journals.

Institutional responsabilities

Between 2015-2020 he served as Year Abroad Co-Ordinator (Italian) and Course Organiser at the University of Edinburgh.

Since 2021 he is member of the Commissione ricerca at DBC.

Since 2021 he is member of the Commissione AQ of the Corso di Laurea in Beni Culturali.

Since 2012 he is member of the editorial board of the journal “L’Alighieri”

Since 2012 he is member of the editorial board of the journal “Bollettino dantesco per il settimo centenario”

Since 2012 he is member of the editorial board of the journal “Griseldaonline”

Between 2012-2016 he served as member of the editorial board of the website of the “Commissione per i Testi di Lingua”

Since 2015 he is in the advisory board of the project Florentine Vernacular Culture (University of Notre Dame).

Since 2017 he is member of the advisory board of the journal “Rivista di letteratura religiosa italiana”

Since 2021 he is member of the editorial board of the journal "Studi e problemi di critica testuale"
