Full professor from December 2021 and previously associate professor in Chemistry at the University of Bologna from 2014, her research is focused on photochemistry and, in particular, on luminescent nanostructured materials. She is actively working on the development of luminescent colloidal systems based on silica nanoparticles (and/or metal and magnetic ones) for biomedical applications (imaging, sensing, therapy and theranostic) both in vitro and in vivo and on mechanochromic materials. In 2003 she was among the founder partners of a company that is still active in the field of genomics and proteomics. She is co-inventor of 4 patents (national or international) and her research activity is documented by numerous papers published on international journals (h index = 49).
